j2database allows you to create, manage, and share databases quickly and easily.

Getting Started

  3. A blank database will load.

    • Explore premade examples by clicking on the Examples tab at the top of the screen.

  4. Once your fields are set up, click Save, give your database a name, and save your work.

Adding Data

  2. Enter data into each field. The entry method will depend on the data type (e.g., lists provide drop-down menus).

  3. Click Save to store each record.

  4. Repeat as necessary until all your data is recorded.

Analysing Your Data

Use the Form, Table, or Chart tabs:

  • Form – View data in the context it was recorded.

  • Table – Display all records in a spreadsheet-style view.

  • Chart – Create visual representations of your data.

Searching Your Database

  • Single-field / keyword searches:

    • Use the search box at the top of any tab to filter records.

    • Example: searching “Aquatic” shows only relevant records.

  • Complex / multi-field searches:

    • Click the magnifying glass next to the search box to expand advanced search options.

    • Combine filters using AND or OR logic.

    • Example: find animals that eat meat AND can fly

Creating Charts

  1. Go to the Chart tab.

  2. Select data for the X-axis and optionally add Y-axis or grouping data.

  3. Customise your chart:

    • Change chart type using the chart type buttons.

    • Adjust colours with the chart colour button.

  4. Save your chart as an image for use in other tools like j2create.
