j2message is Just2easy’s secure messaging tool, designed to make communication simple and safe for teachers and pupils. It allows users to send and receive messages within the school’s trusted environment, supporting both individual and group conversations. With built‑in safeguarding features and full integration with the Just2easy tool‑suite, j2message provides a straightforward way to share updates, ask questions, and keep everyone connected.
Note: j2message is also the tool used for communicating with parents. You can access a help article that outlines parental communication here.
1. Locating j2message on the Launchpad
Log in to your Just2easy account.
On your J2launchpad, look for the j2message icon
Click on the tile to open j2message.
2. Navigating discussion boards
j2message discussion boards are automatically created for your school community. On the left‑hand panel, you’ll find:
Whole‑school boards – visible to all staff and pupils.
Class discussion boards – listed under your teaching classes and registration classes further down the list.
Individual messaging – messages between a staff member and an individual pupil.
Pupils can only send and receive messages here — they cannot start private conversations with each other.
3. Sending a message
Messages can be sent in three ways:
A. Typed messages
Click into the message box, type your message, and use the formatting tools (bold, italic, underline, colour, etc.) if required.
B. Speech‑to‑text
Click the microphone icon to dictate your message.
Speak clearly and wait for your words to appear in the text box.
Edit the text if needed before sending.
C. Recorded audio
Click the record button to record your voice.
Click stop when finished, then send to share your audio message.
Press Enter or click Send to post your message to the discussion board.
4. Managing discussion board settings
Teachers can control the way pupils interact within class discussion boards. These settings can be adjusted in real time:
One‑way messaging – teachers can send messages; pupils can read but not reply.
Restricted replies – pupils can reply to the teacher’s messages but cannot see each other’s replies.
Open discussions – pupils can see and respond to all messages on the board, enabling class‑wide conversations.
Switch between these modes using the settings panel at the top of the class discussion board to suit the learning activity.
5. A secure teaching tool
j2message provides a safe environment for teaching responsible online communication:
Pupils cannot send private messages to each other.
All conversations are visible to staff and fully monitored.
Boards can be tailored to encourage participation while maintaining safeguarding.
Use j2message to build pupils’ confidence in digital communication, encourage class dialogue, and keep your school community connected.
All messages sent and received through j2message are automatically stored in the j2message log, providing a full and permanent record of communications. This log can be accessed in j2dashboard, located at the bottom of the Setup tab.
Having a comprehensive log offers important safeguarding assurances, enabling schools to review conversations in the event of any disclosures or potential misuse of the messaging service. It is recommended that schools make all stakeholders — including staff, pupils, and parents — aware that this logging process is in place to ensure transparency and a safe digital environment.
